what to do if you get jewelry stolen from hotel room?

Had my watch taken from my hotel room, had to be the cleaning person. Hotel said she didnt do it. I took it off before I went to work, put it on counter , not there when I returned. Toar the room apart , I am anal with this watch it was gone. What should I do, the hotel is playing stupid. The watch was worth 2k, and my hotel room is in another state.ofcoarse. What are the correct steps to follow .

You will not see your watch again unless someone turns it in. The fact that a hotel employee was in your room between the time you last saw it and the time you noticed it was missing is not enough evidence to warrant a search of that employee. They will ask them “did you take the watch?” and if they say “no” then that is the end of it. The hotel is not required to reimburse you either, because the watch was not in a safe or safety deposit box.

File a police report (don’t get your hopes up, they will not file any search warrants over this), then use that report to file an insurance claim against your homeowner’s policy. It should cover theft of your insured property even if it’s not stolen from your home.
